Take a look at these photographs showing damage done to the grass when the fields were driven on and played on during a rainstorm this past weekend (August 28th, 2021).
Parks and Recreation has failed to be the partner youth sports need. The city agency failed to monitor permits issued for play, which include restrictions against driving on and playing on soaked grass, given the damage caused by such use.
Multiple youth sports need ongoing access to Edgely field and that means protecting and maintaining the grass.
We need you to call Councilman Jones to express that Parks and Rec personnel need to be better stewards of green space and better stewards of playing fields.
PADA's vision for the future of Edgely is for frisbee, cricket, football, and other sports to all enjoy sharing the benefits of having a large, contiguous, and well-maintained grass space in the heart of Fairmount Park. We are committed to contributing money and volunteer
hours to realize that vision.
As PADA members and as people who value green space in the City of Philadelphia, we want to see Parks and Rec partner with us and with others to keep Edgely a lush grass field that young people from all sports can play on.
Call Councilman Jones at 215-686-3416
